Treasure Your Dream and Talent

Hello, everyone, today my topic is: Treasure Your Dream and Talent Let me tell you the story first: Del, the best player among football team, is always the pride of his father, his coach and the whole team. He can hardly make a mistake or miss a ball to disappoint people’s expectations, and he does not have free time to do other things that he like, as football has taken him over. As a result, he is sick of the endless matches, and decides to lose the game in order to end up his football life.

During the match, he fails to concentrate on the game and let the opponent goal. He feels the anger and laugh from the teammates, however, Spanner, who is Del’s good friend and the third reserve of the team, gives him great comfort and courage at that time. And the courage gives Del confidence, and let him goal to equalize the score. Just a few minutes before the end of the game, Spanner sends Del his first pass of the evening. With the ball under perfect control, Del passes four defenders and can have put the ball into the open net. But he doesn’t. As Spanner runs from the other side like a mad horse, Del carefully sidefoots the ball and spanner makes it in. Spanner wins, the teams wins.

After the game, Del’s father changes his mind. Del finds that what he loves is still football, and it is not the time to say goodbye.

The story ends, but our thought about it never ends. What makes the rising star struggle all over the time and try to give up, and what leads him to revalue himself and keep going? As far as I’m concerned, there are several points that I can give to answer the questions. Children are endowed with different talents in certain areas since they are born, for example, someone may be good at math and biology while others may show outstanding talent in music or sports. Like the character Del, teenagers are overwhelmed by the high expectations of their parents, teachers and even friends because of the “talent” they own, however, such expectations add up and up and at last transform into a burden that children feel hard to bare. They become cautious and tired, afraid of disappointing the high expectations of those people looking at them. To some of the children, the interest, confidence, and pride they have will finally be gone with the wind, while boredom, disappointment, and hate control their minds, which lead them to stop believing in themselves and try to give up.

Effective communication between children and parents seems pale in such cases. If there is a friend, like Spanner, who gives Del support and courage at the right time, the ending of the story changes. If there are more spanners, the whole story would be different. What if our interest and dream differs from the expectations of others, especially our parents? Sometimes we complain, why we have to be like a study-machine that keeps running all over the time? Why no one believes me that I can be the second Steve Jobs? Should we struggle with the world to be a cool guy or compromise and say “okay, I give up”? For me, I will say “Let me show you what I can do.”

Words without actions are powerless. As a student, my very first job is to learn various kinds of knowledge not only for the examinations but also to know the world that we live in, to open my mind, and to be a well-bred person. However, I do have my own interest, too. How to balance the two sides and let people agree and support me is tough job. However, I make it real. When I was a little girl, I became interested in drawing .       

To summarize, no one can seize the talent of you, and only you can decide how to use it appropriately. The way to treasure your dream and talent is to make fewer complaints and spend more effort. Be positive and initiative to communicate with your parents and friends first, probably you’ll find that the world is colorful.
